Description of Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Associate Director for Education Abroad, the Assistant Director for Education Abroad will have primary responsibility for designing, developing, and executing marketing, promotion, advertising, and recruitment strategies for SUNY Oswego education abroad to ensure strong enrollments;
  • Design and execute public relations, outreach, and social media strategy for education abroad at SUNY Oswego using the study abroad web site and other sophisticated and technologically effective ways to communicate with students and partners, proposing new and using existing OIEP tools, to maximize enrollments;
  • Display a positive, engaging, and communicative spirit of teamwork and collegiality in a culturally diverse and international department focused on the needs and goals of undergraduate students studying abroad;
  • Be results-oriented and solutions-oriented, a proactive problem solver, working as a team  member and also individually towards success as directed;
  • Manage a portfolio of key education abroad programs comparable with that of other program specialists (including the Associate Director) depending on expertise and experience;
  • Maintain consistent and professional contact with program personnel at assigned overseas programs;
  • Visit SUNY Oswego’s education abroad programs abroad as needed;
  • Recruit at on-campus and off-campus study abroad recruitment events and fairs, class presentations, and special events;
  • Advise and counsel students to help them select appropriate programs, resolve problems, and overall provide excellent student services;
  • Use Terra Dotta system and otherwise maintain dossiers of applicants for overseas programs in assigned countries, including administrative duties pre- and post-acceptance and pre-departure;
  • Assist supervisor and the Director to develop and research new overseas academic programs;
  • Assist with itineraries and act as host for visiting faculty and staff from overseas programs.

In addition, will be expected to display a commitment to education abroad and international education within a higher education setting, including both undergraduate and/or graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Previous experience in an international office
  • Ethical and confidential manner towards student concerns and records
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid passport
  • Demonstrated effective written and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as well as travel independently worldwide

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Ability to speak a second language
  • Study abroad experience
  • Keen cultural sensitivity, maturity, and professionalism
  • Be self-directed and results oriented
  • Knowledge of SUNY Oswego
  • Experience working and serving diverse population

Description of Department:  The Office of International Education and Programs (OIEP) is primarily responsible for education abroad and international student and scholar services and recruitment. In collaboration with other offices on campus it supports international activities of the university’s academic departments and encourages comprehensive campus internationalization. It promotes the internationalization of the curriculum and campus cultural life and works to increase the number of international students attending Oswego and the number of Oswego students studying and conducting research abroad. OIEP is recognized as one of the top international programs in SUNY and nationwide.
