Business Intelligence Analyst
The Business Analyst will be an integral member of the Data Analysis and Reporting team in the Institutional Research and Assessment department, responsible for providing data management, analytics development and analysis in support of the university's strategic planning and decision-making activities. The qualified candidate must fully grasp the complexities of data management and have a strong understanding of databases and data analysis techniques. This position will be expected to keep up to date with internal and external reporting requirement changes, focusing on how data are maintained and reported from the ERP system. This position will work collaboratively with various university offices to ensure data integrity by reviewing business processes that affect the accuracy of the student data. In addition, the incumbent will assist in maintaining the universities data standards by reviewing how data are used in the student information system as well as by working collaboratively with data stewards to define the intended and proper uses of data. The Business Analyst will also serve as a technical support resource and contribute expertise to develop a body of technical knowledge within Institutional Research and Assessment. This includes developing SQL and PL/SQL scripts, developing reporting and data visualization templates and techniques, and developing IRA's Dashboarding technologies. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Social Science, Engineering, Statistics, Educational Research, or related field and at least two years of directly related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Required Skills & Abilities: * Strong data management skills including the ability to work with large data sets as well as de-normalized datasets. * Working knowledge and experience with relational databases and their associated query tools. Demonstrated experience with Oracle SQL. * Ability to read and write pseudo-code in order to conceptualize processes and communicate complex processes to end users. * Ability to clearly document analytical findings and finalize results. * Ability to apply gained knowledge to analyze and interpret university polices. * Excellent organizational, oral and written communications skills, as well as an attention to detail. * Ability to work independently, as well as on a team, in a fast paced environment. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, in particular, Excel, Word, Access and Outlook. * Demonstrated ability with statistical software packages such as SPSS, JMP, SAS or R. * Proficiency in the operation and use of report writing technologies. * Strong statistical and analytical skill set. Preferred: * Experience working with Banner (or other student information / ERP system). * Experience developing dashboards and data visualizations. * Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
