Student Graduate Assistant - Office of Service Learning

The Graduate Assistant in the Office of Service-Learning works as a member of a team to advance and support the operations of the department. He/she provides support for all service-learning classes, projects and initiatives throughout the University. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, researching, summarizing, and preparing reports on specific topics, contributing to and participating in special programs, preparing spreadsheets and recording and compiling data, creating and testing forms, scanning, general office tasks, and assisting with events sponsored by the department.

Enrolled full-time in a master’s degree program at Stevenson University and eligible for participation in the Graduate Assistant program (cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better). Must be/remain in good standing with the University academically and judicially.

Excellent oral and written communication skills. interpersonal skills. Analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Commitment to integrity, excellence, learning, and community. Self-motivated, flexible, and able to work independently as well as in teams. Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel is required. Database management, website development, and other computer skills are valued. Comfortable using a camera to photograph events. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Physical Requirements:
Medium work: Must be able to lift and carry supplies, not in excess of 40 pounds. Must be able to walk, bend, lift, and carry items reasonable distances. Must be able to stand for extended periods. Requires physical abilities consistent with a busy college environment on a campus with buildings and offices separated by some distance. Position may require additional hours for meetings and events, including days, evenings, and weekends.

Essential Functions:
Support several service-learning program aspects. These functions may be performed individually and/or as part of the GA team as directed. Promote service-learning initiatives, courses, and/or activities. Perform literature and/or Internet research on assigned topics. Prepare summaries and/or reports in the format requested. Create spreadsheets for recording, tracking and analyzing data as assigned. Compile assessment and evaluation data and prepare reports in the format requested. Perform routine office support functions such as copying and filing. Design and assemble requested bulletin boards, slide shows, and presentations. Assist with event planning and set-up including arranging furniture and food for the Office of Service-Learning. Assist with communication of service activities and events through social media. Contribute to portal and/or website initiatives. Serve as the graduate student representative on the Service-Learning Advisory Board and record the minutes for board meetings. Provide support as needed to the Associate Dean of Service-Learning with regard to faculty development initiatives, research, and other projects. Assist with trainings, reflection sessions, and workshops for students. Provide guidance or assistance to individuals or student groups completing service projects or conducting community-based research. Participate in and support other programs of the Office of Service-Learning as needed.
