Posting Summary:
The University of Virginia is searching for a collaborative and dynamic candidate to fill the position of Senior Employee Relations Specialist. As an integral member of the ER Team, the Senior Employee Relations Specialist will work closely with HR professionals, managers and employees to resolve workplace issues and serve as a strategic, consultative business partner for assigned areas across the University.

This role will serve as a subject matter expert in the area of employee relations. The primary focus of this position includes handling complex ER investigations, providing advanced advice and counsel to HR professionals and managers on workplace issues, policy interpretation and application of the progressive disciplinary process that includes informal counseling, formal discipline and the grievance procedure process.

Successful candidates will demonstrate advanced expertise in employee relations and a proven track record of successful results acting as trusted advisors amongst other HR professionals and executive leadership. Autonomy of Senior Specialists is high, given the expertise they demonstrate in the performance of their roles. A Bachelor's degree and 5 years of progressive employee relations experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong working knowledge of relevant state and federal employment laws and compliance requirements related to HR management and employment functions;

Proven ability to perform HR duties and manage sensitive information with discretion, integrity and respect;

Ability to Conceptualize - Able to resolve complex problems and effectively communicate rationale with key stakeholders, while remaining sensitive to employee concerns and adapting to different, sometimes conflicting stakeholder needs;

Excellent verbal and written communication skills including small and large group facilitation capabilities;

Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail;

Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team. Work with senior leaders to accomplish goals. Ability to lead, train, and mentor junior professionals;

Uncommon Integrity - Practice and promote integrity and ethical behavior;

Demonstrated experience creating ER training programs and delivering training to employees and management groups;

Balanced Decision-making - Possesses good judgment, conflict resolution, and decision making skills
