I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Computational Biology Institute (CBI) at the George Washington University (GW) is an interdisciplinary effort building on GW's strengths in life sciences and computational science, in addition to the wealth of research centers in the Washington, DC-area. By bringing together GW experts and scholars from partner institutions, CBI will provide cutting edge research, enable broad educational activities in computational biology and provide computational biology services to university researchers and public and private partners.

The CBI is seeking a Systems Administrator, Software Development to contribute to a research project developing a new 'FABRIC' software product for integrating Omic and electronic health record information into a single environment using the Galaxy platform for analysis of Big Data. This position will a) participate in the development of the a new FABRIC platform software product, b) integrate the widely-used Galaxy platform to perform interactive and visual genome analyses, c) integrate electronic health record information and analysis tools into the FABRIC software as a compliment to Galaxy, and d) assist faculty and students with the development and integration of additional tools into Galaxy and FABRIC

Responsibilities Include:

- Develop new software modules
- Communicate with members of the Institute to understand existing and forecast needs in FABRIC platform software
- Maintain and update current CBI software in the Galaxy platform according to needs of Institute members
- Keep current trends related to genomic imaging practices in the big data community
- Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

A BA/BS in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering) or a related discipline is preferred.
