Summary



Excelsior College, is a regionally accredited, virtual, private, nonprofit institution of higher learning is seeking dynamic applicants for the position of Course Development Specialist, in the Center of Learning Design, Delivery and Technology.

Reporting to the Director of Development and Design Operations, the Course Development Specialist will perform diversified informational functions within the framework of developing and maintaining active course content and related files or multimedia, contributing to the implementation of college-wide initiatives, and strengthening the relationship between the Center for Learning with other academic areas and campus-wide course participants.

The Course Development Specialist (CDS) will demonstrate proficient knowledge of computer applications to assist with online course development and maintenance. The position requires independent judgment and the ability to perform exacting tasks in a timely manner.

This is a full-time position with benefits located at 7 Columbia Circle Albany, NY.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Provide high-quality programming support in the design, development, and revision of online courses using Excelsior College's Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Inspect, convert, and finalize academic course content into compatible electronic formats such as HTML.
  • Transfer and assemble academic content within the LMS.
  • On-going maintenance and term preparation for all active online and CD-ROM courses in the course library.
  • Collaborate with Instructional Designers and Academic Units to support:
    • Online Course Development Environments
    • Course Content Simulation
    • Multimedia Design
    • Quality Matters Standards
  • Ability to prioritize, manage, and accurately complete tasks within prescribed time-frames.
  • Contribute to the implementation of college-wide initiatives as they apply to online courses.
  • Provide technical support to students, faculty, academic units, and TFS in all areas of the LMS, CD-ROMs and course development components.
  • Use Center for Learning Remedy System to manage and prioritize support requests related to online courses issues, updates, and enhancements.




Qualifications


  • Associates Degree with equivalent experience is required. Bachelors degree or near term completion of Bachelors degree is preferred.
  • 1-3 years plus experience in computer, engineering, technology, information systems, online education, information technology, curriculum and instruction, or related field.
  • Proficient computer literacy and willingness to learn additional computer application software. Familiarity with applications such as Dreamweaver, Microsoft Outlook, Blackboard Learning Management System, Canvas Learning Management System, Microsoft Office Suite, Internet Explorer.
  • Experience creating, testing and manipulating different multimedia software
  • Knowledge of HTML or other programming languages preferred
  • Understanding of online education, pedagogy, and best practices
  • Understanding of the objectives and mission of C4L
  • Knowledge of instructional design principles
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail is critical
  • Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
  • Generate suggestions for improving work processes
  • Utilize flexible interpersonal communication skills to provide quality service
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, rapidly-changing environment
  • Ability to adapt to changing policies and procedures
  • Work with diverse groups from all organizational levels
