JOB DESCRIPTION

Administers the information technology systems in the library; maintains and customizes the integrated library system (Innovative’s Sierra) including all modules utilized in the ECC Library (Acquisitions, Cataloging, Circulation, Serials, OPAC, and Course Reserves), as well as patron upload processes, web access management (WAM), library proxy services for remote access authentication; oversees the cataloging and processing of materials in the technical services department including the development of policies and procedures related to these functions, and directs work of classified support staff. Updates Library websites; spearheads digital initiatives; works collaboratively with library and information technology staff; gathers, generates, & maintains library statistical reports; and collaborates in development of online resources. Provides vision and leadership that reflects current needs and anticipates future technology trends in the evolving library and information environment. Participates in Reference Desk duties and in conducting library orientations/workshops as needed. Other duties as assigned.

 

Candidates selected for an interview will prepare a 10 minute presentation on an assigned topic.

Faculty job responsibilities include the development/review of curriculum and assessment of learning outcomes to improve teaching and learning in achieving El Camino College’s mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and vibrant student support services.  

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in library science; library and information science; OR

The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required as stated above must complete the supplemental page of the district application and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR

Valid California community college credential in appropriate subject (per California Education Code 87355 issued prior to July 1, 1990); AND

Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of college students, and of individuals with disabilities.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

An American Library Association accredited Master's degree preferred.

Two years of recent professional experience as a librarian, with an emphasis on maintenance and development of systems and emerging technologies in a college or university learning resources setting; or a specialization in information systems or library integrated systems in a Master's degree library science or library and information science program.

Thorough knowledge of online databases and other electronic resources, PC application software, database management, computer management, wireless applications, and course management systems.

Proficiency in web programming and scripting languages/authoring tools including HTML, open source, web site design and management.

Familiarity with current trends and issues related to libraries, technology, and cataloging (MARC, RDA, etc.).

Strong problem-solving and collaborative skills; evidence of excellent written and oral communications skills.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Contract shall be for full-time, tenure-track teaching assignment for the 2017 – 2018 academic year, beginning August 24, 2017. A teaching demonstration will be required during the interview process. SALARY 

The starting salary ranges from $62,452 - $85,780 depending on education and experience. Excellent fringe benefits are included.

Interview Expenses

Only individuals identified for FINAL interviews are eligible to have their expenses paid. Reimbursement will be limited to economy airfare (to and from point of origin) and for meals and lodging. The maximum allocated for meals, lodging and transportation is $600. Candidate must complete a Travel Request and Reimbursement Form and submit it together with all supporting documentation to the Human Resources Office.

Health, Life, Dental and Vision Insurance

The College provides a diversified insured benefit program for all full-time employees including medical, dental, vision and life insurance. Dependent medical, dental and vision insurance is available toward which both the College and the employee contribute.

Sick Leave and Disability

Paid sick leave is granted equal to one day for each month of service. Sick leave may be accumulated indefinitely. Rather than State Disability Insurance, limited sick leave benefits are available for days beyond the earned sick leave days and are paid at fifty percent.

Retirement

Full-time employees contribute a percentage of their regular salary to either the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) or to the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) and social Security. Upon termination, STRS or PERS retirement contributions may be withdrawn in full, plus accumulated interest. Various benefit options are available for employees upon retirement.
