Richard Bland College of William & Mary is currently seeking exceptional Biology Professors (2) to serve in a permanent, non-tenure track, full-time position (with option for renewal based upon performance and college policy) for the Fall 2017 semester. The primary role of this position is to provide college-level instruction and academic-related activities designed to encourage, support, and enable student success. In addition to teaching biology at all levels and supporting the development of stronger interdisciplinary ties with other departments, duties include student advising and committee service under our shared governance structure as part of the Department of Natural Science at the College. Reporting to the Chair of Natural Science, these faculty members will be an integral part of our academic community, whose major responsibilities include:

• Teaching Biology courses in accordance with college and departmental policies and procedures.

• Preparing and submitting timely grade reports and other reports on student performance, as required.

• Organizing class activities and assignments, relating them to the overall learning outcomes of the courses.

• Providing input and working with other faculty and staff to review, produce, and/or select course-related materials.

Required Qualifications

• A Master of Science degree (or higher) in a biology-related discipline from a regionally accredited college or university; or a M.S. degree with 18 graduate credit hours in Biology.

• Extensive knowledge of the subject area(s) of instruction, which include general biology for majors and non-majors, anatomy & physiology, cell biology, microbiology, nutrition, or some combination thereof.

• Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of effective communication and instruction.

• Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and challenges of first and second year college students.

• Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative style.

• Enthusiastic commitment to the Richard Bland College mission, vision, and strategic plan.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the minimum qualifications, the top-rated candidates will have the following:

• Terminal degree (M.D., Ph.D., D.O.) in biological science.

• Significant experience as a college faculty member.

• Extensive background and experience in implementing innovative education delivery techniques.

• Enthusiastic commitment to the Richard Bland College mission, vision, and strategic plan.
