The Division of Undergraduate Education is seeking a Director of Development with extensive development and management experience, interpersonal skills and initiative to raise necessary funds that will keep this foundation strong.
An experienced manager and communicator, the Director of Development will establish long-range goals and objectives for development programs that reflect the academic priorities of the Division of Undergraduate Education, under the supervision of the Executive Director of Development, Humanities and Undergraduate Education in the College of Letters and Science and in consultation with the Dean of Undergraduate Education. He/She will gain understanding of faculty and administrator research interests, expertise and priority areas; determine market feasibility for academic priorities; and provide advice and counsel as well as serve as a staff resource to the Dean, in collaboration with the Executive Director and other members of the Undergraduate Education development team. The Director will develop constituencies to identify, cultivate, and solicit prospective donors in relation to academic priorities and manage major gift solicitations. He/She will establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and represent Undergraduate Education in the College and to the broader community, conducting meetings with volunteers, donors, friends, prospects and community stakeholders. The Director will supervise two Assistant Directors of Development and an Administrative Assistant.
The Director of Development will possess five years of progressively responsible development experience, with a strong working knowledge of principles and practices of major gift fundraising and a strong understanding of the goals, functions, and services of a nationally acclaimed research university. He/She will have proven management skills and the ability to work harmoniously to achieve fundraising goals. In addition, the Director will have demonstrated ability to conceptualize and implement individual, corporate and foundation identification, cultivation and solicitation strategies. Excellent communication and listening skills and the ability to recruit and encourage staff and volunteers, with experience implementing special events, are essential for success in this role.
