Position Status: Administrative Exempt Positions
The Associate Controller is responsible for treasury functions including cash management, banking relationships, and student loans, as well as plant fund accounting including bond compliance, asset capitalization and retirement, and debt service budgeting. This position actively supports the controller during the annual audit and in the preparation of the financial statement of the university. The position directly supervises the senior treasury analyst, the plant fund senior accountant, and the student loan funds staff accountant.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Manage and report on levels of cash including petty cash maintained within departments
Serve as primary contact with banking institutions
As authorized signatory for the institution release wire transfers, sign large check disbursements, authorize federal drawdowns of cash, and approve sale of stock gifts
Work with IT to ensure university PCI compliance; keep current on knowledge of fraud prevention
Execute loans for acquisition of equipment and vehicles
Supervise collection process for student loans
Oversee accounting for federal Perkins Loan and Institute Loan funds, Trust & Life Funds, and Student Government Association (SGA) funds
Review accounting for Plant Fund including fixed assets, capital projects, and maintenance analysis
Manage accounting and record retention required for bond compliance
Prepare and annually file federal student aid FISAP report
Manage monthly sales tax filings; maintain state tax registrations
Develop and document policies and procedures
Support financial software implementations
Promote team environment and staff development
Minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressive responsibility in accounting positions, including 3 to 5 years in a supervisory role.
Experience in higher education financial accounting preferred with knowledge of accounting standards and federal and state regulations applicable to not for profits and universities.
Demonstrated competency with financial information technology and ability to support systems implementations
Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change; strong communication skills.
