The Department of Pathology at the University of Virginia seeks a highly motivated Laboratory Specialist. The specialist will manage the cell culture operation of a NIH funded laboratory. Incumbent will be expected to make media, pipette fluids accurately, quantify cell growth, operate a photographing microscope, program a laboratory pipetting robot, and perform sterile techniques. In addition, this position requires a working knowledge and experience with a wide range of biomedical techniques, which include but are not limited to: polymerase chain reaction, flow cytometry, computer programming (Per), performing statistical analysis of data, and operating a fluorescent confocal microscope. Incumbent may also be expected to train other technicians and students.
Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience in eukaryotic cell culture. Relevant or student work experience may be considered. Candidates must have experience growing a wide variety of cells in many types of growth containers. Experience with careful manipulation of media and optimizing growth conditions to achieve high cell yields, as well as documenting the results in written manuscripts is required.
This position is restricted and is contingent on the continuation of funding.
