Primary Function of Organization Unit: The department of Food, Bioprocessing, and Nutrition Sciences conducts research, teaching, extension, and outreach in Food Science, Bioprocessing, and Nutrition.

Essential Job Duties: The Food Entrepreneur Program Director / Acidified Foods Process Authority position will manage the day-to-day operations of the Entrepreneur Initiative for Foods (ei4F) Program and serve as the state and federally recognized process authority in acidified food products. The position is responsible for oversight of receipt accounts, contracts, and grants in support of the ei4f program. The position must be recognized and/or participate in delivery of education and training short courses and workshops designed for the North Carolina food industry and regulatory personnel. The position is also responsible for the entrepreneur food product testing laboratory. The position is expected to work collaboratively with Area Specialized Agents, County Agents, Extension Specialists, and Research Faculty from NC State University as well as food entrepreneurs, food industry personnel, federal, state, and county leaders, and other external partners and stakeholders. Essential duties of the position include, but are not limited to: * Plan, develop, deliver, and evaluate a comprehensive education and training program in acidified food products within the Department of Food, Bioprocessing and Nutrition Sciences. * Plan, develop, deliver, and evaluate organized events (in-person/online short courses/workshops, meetings, conferences, seminars, etc.) and education materials (fact sheets, referred Extension publications, manuals, etc.) as needed. * Serve as the Extension WolfWare Outreach Coordinator for online custom training courses. * Collaborate with other agencies, businesses, and organizations to enhance the course content and delivery of food safety programs within the programmatic area. * Help to establish and participate in a program advisory council and solicit input from clientele. * Establish themselves as an expert resource and point of contact for advanced clientele, area Extension Centers, industry-related businesses, and government and non-profit agencies. * Make determinations on product classification, process recommendations, and general product safety at the request of ei4f employees. * Work cooperatively to facilitate area Extension programs for agents and clientele to enhance the applied research and knowledge transfer function within the subject area. * Support and collaborate with Extension and research faculty in research and demonstration projects to facilitate transfer of knowledge to the industry and interested citizens. * Report and evaluate state-wide programs and impacts. * Manage ei4F employees, staff and students * Design business plan for sustained operation of ei4F programs. * Support the CALS and FBNS Food Processing and Manufacturing Initiative.

Minimum Education/Experience: * Master's degree in the specialized area of responsibility. * Must be able to make informed decisions on whether food products are safe, which processing steps might potentially be of concern, and if process deviations result in a safe versus an unsafe product. * Must have demonstrated skills and abilities in program development and evaluation, and subject matter expertise in the area of specialization.

Department Required Skills: * Able to handle multiple work demands and identify priorities. * Work independently, while simultaneously being connected with the program team, campus specialists, and county offices being served. * Plan, develop, deliver, and evaluate research-based educational programs. * Function as a team player in support of a total Extension program through interdisciplinary efforts with all parties involved. * Demonstrate excellent and positive public and personal relationship skills. * Perform at high levels in both public and interpersonal communications. * Support and collaborate with Extension and research faculty in securing grants, gifts, or contracts that could lead to further position support. * Use current technology in developing and delivering programs and technical service. * Possess a high degree of subject matter competency and stay current on new and trending developments within their specialization. * Be a self-starter and self-directed. * Highly organized and responsive to stakeholders.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * PhD in the specialized area of responsibility. * 3 years of Extension work or education-related and/or industry experience in the area of specialization. * * Demonstrated experience in facilitating field research, as well as a history of successfully obtaining or capacity to obtain extramural funding.

Necessary Licenses and Certifications: * Valid NC driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 2 months of start.
