Working Title: Research Associate
Position Type: Professional Research Staff
Department: Center for Public Health Genomics
Posting Date: 03-20-2017
The Casey Laboratory at the University of Virginia seeks a motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate in the area of cancer research with expertise in molecular biology, cell biology and/or molecular genetics. The candidate will join an interactive group of motivated scientists in the Center for Public Health Genomics (http://cphg.virginia.edu) at the University of Virginia to study the early molecular events in colorectal cancer development from colon epithelial stem cell deregulation leading to cancer.
Our goal is to better understand the early molecular events in colorectal cancer development from stem cell deregulation using normal human colon 3D organoid "mini-gut" models through to colorectal cancer models with the aim of developing improved prevention and surveillance methods for colorectal cancer. Our approach incorporates multiple different strategies. These include molecular biology (in vitro enhancer activity assays, CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing), cell biology (normal human colon 3D organoid "mini-gut" models), genetic/genomic (genome wide association studies, whole genome sequencing and RNA-Seq) and epigenetic (ChIP-Seq and ATAC-Seq) approaches to interrogate the mechanistic and biological basis of inherited genetic risk variants and environmental exposures involved in colorectal cancer.
Candidates must have a PhD or MD in Molecular or Cell Biology, Genetics, or a related field degree in hand by start date and have demonstrated expertise in molecular biology. Must have experience in at least two of the following: molecular biology, cell biology, stem cell biology or genetics. Successful candidates must exhibit independence, creativity, and effective oral and written communication skills as demonstrated by peer reviewed publications and conference presentations.
