Job Description

The School of Communication and Media at Montclair State University invites applications for a tenure track assistant/associate professor position in the area of Public Relations (PR) to begin September 1, 2017.

This position combines teaching, research, and service responsibilities. The candidate hired for this position will teach introductory and advanced courses in the undergraduate program in public relations and the graduate program in public and organizational relations. The successful candidate will have a defined research agenda and demonstrated potential for ongoing research productivity. Areas of specialization that complement current strengths and initiatives of the School include international public relations, sports public relations, and digital media.

The successful candidate should also have professional experience in the public relations industry and a commitment to building relationships with PR practitioners, media partners, and community organizations. Ideally, the candidate will be able to flourish in the PR markets of our urban region, establish a network of connections and develop project opportunities that will create new research directions, and enhance student engagement.

The School of Communication and Media has 800 majors in undergraduate tracks that include public relations, communication studies, communication and media arts, filmmaking, journalism, and television and digital media. The School also offers an M.A. degree in Public and Organizational Relations. Faculty work closely with students to provide guidance for organized academic, project-based, and entrepreneurial activities through the PRSSA Chapter, the Lambda Pi Eta Chapter, The Montclarion newspaper, the radio station (WMSC-FM), WiredJersey.com, the HD and 4K television production center, and a thriving internship program that connects students to a vast network of placements in larger metropolitan areas.



Qualifications & Requirements

A Ph.D. in the field of public relations or communication and media (all degree requirements must be completed by August 1, 2017). Demonstrated record of teaching excellence, an active and promising research agenda, and the ability to work in collaborative environments. The faculty member will also have some service responsibilities that may include advising of students, mentoring students in the PRSSA Chapter, supervising student interns, and participating in other initiatives in the School of Communication and Media and throughout the University.
