Applications are invited for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Applied Mathematics. Exceptionally qualified candidates may be considered at higher rank. Preference will be given to candidates with potential to engage with and reinforce the following active areas of research by current faculty: applied dynamical systems, computational fluid dynamics, computational modeling, mathematical biology and medical imaging. However, strong candidates in all areas of applied mathematics will be considered.
Candidates are expected to be excellent teachers, active scholars, and mentors to both undergraduate and Master's research students. They are also expected to take an active role in departmental, university, and professional activities, and to pursue research that will lead to competitive grant proposals and scholarly publications. It is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to the new Professional Science Master's in Mathematical and Computational Modeling beginning in Fall 2017, and play an active role in an anticipated PhD program in Applied Mathematics.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences comprises the disciplines of applied mathematics, pure mathematics, mathematics education, physics, and statistics, with a total of 29 full-time, tenured and tenure-track faculty. The Department offers a number of Bachelors and Master's degree programs. Additionally, some members of the Department faculty are affiliated with the interdisciplinary PhD program in Environmental Management and the Center for Quantitative Obesity Research. Montclair State University is New Jersey's second-largest university, with over 20,000 students and is a Research Doctoral University under the Carnegie classification of higher-education institutions as well as a state-designated Research University. Qualifications & Requirements
Applicants must have a doctoral degree in Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field. Candidates with post-doctoral or comparable experience will be preferred. In addition, the applicant must show evidence of effective teaching and high research activity including peer-reviewed publications. Prior record of external funding is a plus.
