The School of Communication and Media (SCM) at Montclair State University invites applications for a tenure-track position as an assistant/associate professor in Television and Digital Media to begin September 1, 2017. This faculty position requires a strong mix of academic, professional, and technical experience blended with the educational background to develop first-rate television and digital media academic programs and provide excellent instruction, predominantly to undergraduate students. Candidates should be well-versed in current technology, including high definition technology for television, and the ways that it is implemented on today's multi-media platforms and digital media and the approaches being used to produce digital content. Candidates should be prepared to integrate these technology developments into teaching and curriculum development. The successful candidate will provide strong leadership for the evolution of academic programs and project initiatives that fully exploit the potential of our new HD and 4K television studios and multiplatform newsroom.
All faculty are expected to maintain an active scholarly agenda that includes research and/or applied projects. This faculty member will also have the opportunity to engage fully and constructively in an exciting and rapidly growing School of Communication and Media with service opportunities advising students on their academic programs and career development, interviewing applicants for potential admission to the program, and supervising student internships during the course of the academic year. In addition, s/he will contribute with students, faculty, and staff on a variety of production projects.
The School of Communication and Media has 800 majors in undergraduate tracks that include television and digital media (with concentrations in audio/sound design, documentary, sports media and journalism, and television production), communication studies, communication and media arts, journalism, public relations, and filmmaking. The school also offers an M.A. degree in Public and Organizational Relations. Faculty work closely with students to provide guidance for organized academic, project-based, and entrepreneurial activities through The Montclarion newspaper, the radio station (WMSC-FM), WiredJersey.com, the HD and 4K television production center, the PRSSA Chapter, the Lambda Pi Eta Chapter, and a thriving internship program that connects students to a vast network of placements in larger metropolitan areas.
Qualifications & Requirements
The successful candidate for this position will have a combination of academic and professional experience that can transfer successfully into contemporary academic programs that will prepare students to work at the frontiers of a rapidly changing field. A doctoral or master's degree in a relevant field is strongly preferred, although applicants with significant professional experience in the field will also be considered.
