The Department of Nursing invites applications for a Department chair at the rank of Associate or Professor with tenure beginning September 2017. We are seeking a visionary candidate who can provide academic, nursing, and administrative leadership to meet the mission and goals of the department, college and university in a multicultural community.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES: Leadership and oversight of a diverse faculty, staff and student body enrolled in BSN, RN-BSN and MSN programs. The nursing department faculty and students are located in two distinct campuses. The goals and challenges of the chair require ability to lead and strengthen a complex, intense department as it meets CCNE accreditation and State of California BRN approval requirements. The department chair is expected to demonstrate excellence in organizational skills while meeting traditional requirements of teaching in areas of expertise, research and creative activities, and service to the university, profession of nursing, and the community.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in nursing or related field from regionally accredited institution. PhD in nursing is preferred. Masters degree in nursing required if doctorate is not in nursing. Sufficient qualifications and experience to warrant appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor with tenure. Demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarship and professional service.

Eligibility for licensure in state of California is expected. Five to seven years progressively responsible faculty and administrative experience in baccalaureate or higher nursing education. Demonstrated experience in CCNE accreditation and program organization, development and maintenance. The preferred candidate will have an established reputation as leader in nursing and higher education with prior experience as a nursing dean or chair. Exceptional leadership experience in multi-departmental settings with demonstrated experience in communication, management, productive teamwork and complex organizational dynamics. Experience in accordance with the State of California BRN regulations and approval and/or the CSU system is preferred. Evidence of experience with strategic and financial planning preferred. Experience with grant preparation and distance education preferred. Evidence of ability to lead faculty in the advancement of scholarship and development, funding and community involvement appropriate to a graduate degree granting department. 

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: Candidates will submit a letter of interest, completed application, Curriculum Vita, statement of philosophy of nursing education and leadership, names and contact information (telephone, email and fax) for three references related to administrative and academic experience, and official transcripts from institution awarding highest degree and nursing degrees. Documentation of recent nursing practice in specialty area will be needed to be granted teaching approval by the BRN.
