    DESCRIPTION

The University of California, Irvine seeks nominations and applications for the inaugural Associate Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion, UC Irvine Health Affairs. Reporting to the office of the Vice Chancellor, Health Affairs and CEO of UC Irvine Health, Dr. Howard Federoff, the Associate Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion will collaborate closely with senior leaders, faculty, staff, residents and students across all aspects of Health Affairs to develop, lead and support efforts to further diversity and inclusion initiatives at all levels of the institution.

Candidates must possess an earned doctorate (e.g., PhD, MD, PharmD, DSW, DNP, ScD, JD, etc.), and must possess credentials that merit appointment as an associate professor or professor within the appropriate School or Program in the College of Health Sciences.

This is an exciting period of growth and change for health sciences at UC Irvine. Besides the medical enterprise (UC Irvine Health), existing programs in Nursing Science, Public Health and Pharmaceutical Sciences will be formed into new Schools, and together with the School of Medicine will constitute the College of Health Sciences. Health Affairs is the administrative umbrella that includes leadership for both UC Irvine Health and the College of Health Sciences. The Associate Vice Chancellor will be responsible for UC Irvine Health and the College of Health Sciences and will play a critical role in helping to create an environment that attracts the most diverse students, faculty, residents, post-docs and staff.

The Associate Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion will serve as the senior leader in coordinating efforts across Health Affairs to build a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming environment that advances inclusive excellence. He or she will not only ensure that diversity and inclusion efforts are infused into all aspects of the clinical, educational, and research enterprises of the organization, but will also provide leadership, counsel and advocacy, by being a point of connection and communication in achieving that vision.

The Associate Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion will be an experienced and successful leader, manager and effective communicator with a distinguished record of increasingly responsible leadership. He or she will be able to demonstrate proven effectiveness and expertise in diversity and inclusion as well as the ability to lead with vision, purposefulness and optimism in helping shape UC Irvine Health Affairs' future.

The ideal candidate for this position will have at least 10 years of administrative experience, preferably in a large, complex university. In addition, he or she will have knowledge of, and experience working in, the health sciences. A nationally recognized leader, with proven experience in the research, literature and implementation of diversity science and demonstrated commitment to diversifying faculty, students, staff and curriculum, is required. Candidates should possess a high level of cultural awareness and sensitivity. Knowledge of the legal landscape surrounding Title IX, Title II, and other federal legislation concerning equity in education would be desirable.
