Job Description Summary

Plans and controls special events at the Hospitality Management Center from conception to clean up. Assists the General Manager/Dean with all departmental assignments and initiatives, as directed. Communicates directly with the client to explore expectations and objectives of the event to be developed and effectively relayed to departmental staff.



Job Responsibilities

Meets with faculty, administration, and clients to outline event details, and planning

Regularly interfaces with clients and Chef Instructors, listening to their needs and presenting ideas and solutions to their requirements

Performs special events facilitation tasks from set up to cleanup

Organizes work and equipment lists, designs event locations and dcor to maximize the event optic and guest flow, and adapts the operating plan to accommodate changes and unforeseen challenges

Collaborates with the Hospitality Management Center on the front line of food and beverage service for special events

Ensures room set up is in accordance with the event specifications

Provides service of food and beverages while maintaining excellence in guest service

Actively listens to guest needs and effectively communicates issues to leadership

May work with the Hospitality Management Center on the front line of food and beverage service for special events

May prepare plating displays and "small plates"

Cleans equipment, space, and rest rooms after events for the next function

Performs other duties as assigned



Required Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

High School Diploma (or equivalent)

Minimum one year of demonstrated experience in planning or assisting with events related to specialty culinary operations

Demonstrated experience making sound decisions that affect a work unit or team

Must maintain a professional, clean, and neat appearance and event venue

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure while maintaining a friendly and relaxed demeanor

Ability to work long, busy shifts during evening and weekend events

Possess strong organizational and time-management skills

Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Ability to foster a team environment and work collaboratively

Ability to research and analyze issues and develop solutions

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment

Works accurately with great attention to detail

Excellent customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships

Demonstrated basic project management skills

Demonstrated basic proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel

Possess basic knowledge of hospitality management concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply in varied situations as it pertains to the departmental focus

Possess sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of a diverse population
