Job Description

The Resident Director will facilitate a safe, comfortable, and positive environment in which students can achieve their academic and personal goals. Provide supervision to one Residence Life Team Assistant and 10-14 Resident Assistants. Oversees administrative functions of assigned community of 400-670 residents; advising Area Council; promoting student and community development, while creating a physical and psychological environment conducive to academic success.

Assists in the coordination of one or more of the major programmatic aspects of Residence Life including but not exclusive to the following: Resident Housing Association, Student & Professional Staff Recruitment and Selection, RA Training/In-Service, Staff Appreciation, Summer Conferences, Staff Development, Assessment, and the First Year Residence Experience; as well as other duties as outlined in your official Position Description.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited institution in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Counselor Education or related field.

Consideration will be given to applicants who will have their Master's degree conferred by July 1, 2017.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited institution in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Counseling, Counselor Education or related field.

One year of Graduate Hall Director experience.

Experience with SCT Banner Student Information System, Maxient Conduct Management Software, and Residential Management System (RMS).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of residence hall living and/or student development.

Knowledge and experience relevant to the management of a student residential area consisting of 10-14 buildings housing 400-670 students.

Must possess strong interpersonal, supervision, and teamwork skills.

Demonstrated organizational skills. Ability to assume responsibility, work independently and take initiative. Demonstrated commitment to equity and social justice.

Ability to work effectively and positively in an environment characterized by change.

Knowledge of the fundamental aspects of college student intellectual, emotional, and social development.

Knowledge of campus resources that may be used to support the residential program and individual students.

Knowledge of the fundamental indicators of student mental health concerns, substance abuse and domestic violence.

Ability to address crisis situations.

Essential Job Duties

Facilitates a safe, comfortable, and positive environment in which students can achieve their academic and personal goals.

Facilities: Conducts tours of all assigned facilities. Communicates regularly with maintenance staff and residents on repair and up-keep issues as well as work orders for assigned area/buildings. Reviews work order logs for assigned buildings. Follows-up on maintenance requests to ensure completion. Addresses all facilities issues immediately and thoroughly, especially those that may compromise the health and/or safety of the residents.

Administration: Participates in the "Administrator On-Call" rotation schedule. Completes various reports, forms, and other documents as needed. Participates in special projects and committees as assigned. Attends professional staff meetings and training sessions. Assists in the recruitment and selection process for student and professional staff members. Assists in the development and implementation of the Resident Assistant training program. Provides policies and procedures interpretation. Enforces all administrative policies and procedures consistently. Acts as an administrative hearing officer for cases involving alleged student misconduct.

Crisis Management: Responds to emergency situations in a manner consistent with established procedures. Conducts follow-up to emergency situations as necessary and utilizes campus and community resources appropriately to address crisis situations.

Committee Assignments: Assists with the coordination of several major programmatic aspects of residential life including but not exclusive to the following: Resident Housing Association, RA Recruitment and Selection, Assessment, Desk Assistant Recruitment and Selection, RA Training, Staff Development//In-Service, Staff Recognition, Facilities, and Summer Conferences.

Supervises Resident Assistants and OPS student assistant. Conducts weekly staff meetings with Resident Assistant team for purposes of team building, sharing information and training. Conducts one-on-one meetings at least one time every two weeks with each Resident Assistant for purposes of information sharing, performance evaluation, coaching, and feedback. Provides frequent informal communication with Resident Assistants regarding their position responsibilities, personal well-being and academic progress. Completes performance evaluations for each Resident Assistant. Participates and/or conducts formal training programs for Resident Assistants.

Assists with special projects or one-time events associated with the Office of Housing and Residence Life as needed. Serves on University committees and represents the University at community events. Other duties as assigned.
