The University of Kentucky is currently seeking to fill a Director of Employee Engagement and Work-Life. The HR Director of Employee Engagement and Work Life will lead the creation and implementation of a comprehensive employee engagement strategy for the University and provide direction to HR Work-Life programs. A primary focus will be on collaborating with University leaders to determine links between engagement and University/unit success metrics. This position will also partner with University leadership, deans, department and unit leaders to develop strategic plans and tactics to improve engagement. Additionally, the Director will work to integrate engagement concepts into existing and future supervisor touchpoints and communications with the aim for strong supervisors to become the primary conduit for increasing engagement. The Director will be responsible for the execution and overall communication as it relates to employee engagement initiatives. This position will be responsible for the regular completion of an employee engagement survey, both institutionally and at the local unit/college/department level. The HR Director will serve as the subject matter expert on the survey results and will heavily engage with unit/college/department leaders and teams in sharing the survey results and creating action plans to drive positive employee engagement.

Physical Requirements

The essential job functions of this position require: communicating effectively; building positive working relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds; abiding by University guidelines; maintaining confidentiality; prioritizing and managing work effectively; providing exceptional customer service; perform work in a sedentary position; report to meetings at different locations both on campus on off campus; interact with individuals from various levels throughout the university.


Primarily days with core hours from 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday. Weekend and/or evening hours may be required upon occasion and/or as workload demands.


Statistical analysis, survey design, public speaking, project management, people leading, employee engagement and employee assistance program professional knowledge.

Does this position have supervisory responsibilities?

Preferred Education/Experience

Prefer advanced degree in O/I Psychology, Human Resources, business, management or related field and work experience in an institution of higher education (college or university) with exposure to healthcare/clinical practices. Must have previous work experience leading employee engagement and/or employee assistance programs.
