The Department of Pediatrics' Division of Nephrology at the University of Virginia and University of Virginia Children's Hospital seeks candidates for an academic Assistant Professor (tenure eligible or tenure ineligible) committed to a clinician-scientist career track. The Division of Pediatric Nephrology is a strong clinical and research division, ranked in the top 50 programs by US News and World Report in 2015. The Division is composed of senior and junior faculty and trainees with diverse research interests spanning basic, translational, and clinical research. Active research projects include study of renal development, detection of and mechanisms of damage in AKI, actions of nephrotoxic drugs as well as clinical trials to advance knowledge of disease and treatment relevant to the pediatric nephrology community.
Candidates must have an MD or DO and be board-eligible or board-certified in pediatric nephrology. Candidates must have significant experience in basic, clinical, or translational research and a strong interest in a career in academic medicine. The candidate will be expected to provide outstanding subspecialty care and teaching while developing a competitive research program in association with senior mentors.

The Department of Pediatrics is extremely collegial and collaborative. The Division of Pediatric Nephrology is currently comprised of 4 full time board certified nephrologists (one full time researcher), 2 nurse clinicians, 2 fellows, and works closely with dedicated social workers, dieticians, an education specialist, and the UVA Renal Unit and Transplant program. The Division has outstanding collaborative working relationships with our general pediatricians as well as other pediatric subspecialists, our surgical colleagues and our colleagues in adult medicine.
