Housing and Dining Services at the University of Colorado Boulder welcomes applicants for a Grounds Technician position. This position provides daily routine and emergency maintenance services to the Housing & Dining landscape on the University of Colorado Boulder campus. The incumbent must have at least one year of experience with grounds care and maintenance, snow removal, greenhouse or plant nursery general labor work, be able to work well in a team environment, and exercise reliability. This is a full-time, seasonal position with benefits.

What your key responsibilities will be:

General Grounds Maintenance:

Housing and Dining Landscape maintains landscape areas in accordance with industry standard "Best Maintenance Practices (BMP)". Turf areas kept neat and maintained at proper height using riding mowers, walk behind mowers, string trimmers and edgers. Landscape beds maintained by the proper planting, pruning, hand watering and fertilization of trees, shrubs, vines, ornamental grasses and flower beds. Controls weeds in turf, bed and hardscape areas within established thresholds using approved cultural practices. Monitors landscape areas and reports problems, such as; overly wet or dry conditions, plant insect and disease issues, vandalism, safety, etc. May assist other HDS Grounds staff with landscape improvements, sod repair or other projects as directed by Supervisor. Employee is expected to perform all other duties as assigned.




Trash and Litter Mitigation:

Trash collection and litter pick-up in assigned work area including, but not limited to; turf panels, landscape beds, hardscapes, window and stair wells, water ways and native areas. Reports vandalism, illegal postings, trash and recycling issues to Work Leader and/or Supervisor.



Vehicle, Equipment, and Tool Maintenance:

Proper use, maintenance and care of all assigned equipment (vehicles, GUVs, mowers, 2 cycle equipment, hand tools, etc.). Completes regularly assigned preventative maintenance (PMs) and schedules additional maintenance or repairs with Work Leader and/or Supervisor as needed. Reports any missing equipment and all accidents that result in physical damage to University vehicle(s) or property; to HDS Grounds Supervisor, University Police Department, Risk Management and the Transportation Center, as required.



Safety:

Adhere to all HDS and University safety guidelines and policies. Responsible for the safe operation of vehicles, equipment and tools; seeks instruction on safe operating procedures from Work Leaders and/or Supervisor as needed and uses personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.



Snow Removal and Ice Abatement:

Removes snow and ice from streets, parking lots, sidewalks and curbs. Applies sand/salt or Anti-icing chemical mixtures using various equipment. May be required to assist with snow removal and ice abatement in other HDS areas as needed.

What you should know:
  • This position will provide routine and emergency grounds maintenance for the Housing & Dining landscape.
  • This is an "Essential Services" Position. The incumbent is required to respond to requests for work during campus emergencies (snow, wind, rain, flood and any other natural or man-made event) and report to work for his / her regularly assigned shift during emergency campus closures.
  • This position will work Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 am and 3:30 pm based on staffing requirements of the Department.
