This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.
Special Working Conditions:
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evening and weekend hours as needed for special projects, events, or campus crisis or emergency situations.
Salary Range and Max Salary

The salary range for this classification is: $4,104 - $6,662 monthly.
Conditions of Employment
The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
Due to the nature of this position, the successful candidate is required to complete a background check prior to assuming this position.

Department: Communications & Public Affairs
The Division of University Advancement is charged with developing relationships with external constituencies that will lead to greater human and financial resources for the University. The areas of University Advancement include Communications/Public Affairs, Government & Community Relations, Alumni Relations, Ceremonies & Events, Development and Advancement Services.
Under the general direction of the Director of University Communications and Public Affairs, the Digital Communications & Web Marketing Specialist supports the universitys strategic plan and communications objectives in the area of digital media, by planning, organizing, implementing and maintaining a well-structured and well-coordinated university web presence and strategic electronic and interactive communications for the Division of University Advancement. The Digital Communications & Web Marketing Specialist is responsible for digital media production which includes (but is not limited to) creating interactive campaigns; writing or editing copy; making web site enhancements and designing electronic communications such as social media content. Assures design, editorial, and technical excellence for web and digital communications projects targeting the universitys internal and external audiences. Works with the communications team to set direction and develop meaningful and measurable goals for web and electronic content; recommends policies and procedures regarding web and digital media; Also works closely with the communications team on web and digital crisis communications in response to emergency and crisis situations. Works fairly autonomously, and exercises sound judgment and discretion in the completion of assignments and projects. Is able to communicate technical needs to non-technical staff and assists or trains others in web and digital media development.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Required Education: Bachelor's degree, which includes relevant coursework in the field.
Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, graphic design, web design/digital media, digital marketing or related field.
Required Experience: Two years of related professional or technical experience.
Preferred Experience: Two to three years of significant experience in web design and technologies, interactive and content marketing, digital communications and other online experience. Communications experience in a university setting is desirable.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply extensive expertise in Adobe Creative Suite - Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premier, After Effects
Extensive knowledge of Wordpress, Drupal and other web content management systems.
Experience with multiple file formats for web applications (text, graphic, audio, video, etc.).
Demonstrated expertise in and advanced knowledge of the digital landscape and content marketing - digital, social, email - best practices. UX and responsive design, search, MSM, PPC, SEO, schema markup, mobile, syndication, re-targeting, automation, analytics and other digital marketing expertise.
Expertise in administrative survey techniques, operations and systems analysis, statistical and research methods, and the ability to interpret and evaluate results to develop sound conclusions and recommend new or revised policies.
Ability to understand problems from a broad, interactive perspective and discern applicable underlying principles to conceive of and develop strategic solutions.
Ability to work with representatives from public and private entities and handle potentially sensitive situations. Demonstrated consultative skills in working with internal and external constituent groups.
Ability to effectively present ideas and concepts in written or presentation format and use consultative and facilitation skills to gain consensus.
Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite applications; strong leadership and project management skills; keen organizational skills to maintain order and progress amid a fast-paced environment of competing demands and production deadlines; possess an acute desire to learn new technology, along with the ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively and cooperatively with a variety of teams within the organization;
Ability to develop web sites/pages based on pre-approved design; communicate technical needs to non-technical staff; develop solutions to design and communications challenges for various electronic publications.
Additional Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Extensive writing, editorial, and design skills; marketing and/or public relations communications skills. Knowledge and ability in motion design, video editing and production using programs such as Flash, After Effects and Premiere Pro. Knowledge of web and digital accessibility practices.
Preferred Certification: Google AdWords certification in one or more areas that include: Search Advertising, Display Advertising, Mobile Advertising, Video Advertising, or Shopping Advertising.
Specialized Materials: The position activities may require the use of the following equipment, machinery, tools,vehicles or office equipment:
Computer, PC and MAC platforms; computer peripherals such as, but not limited to, printers, scanners, monitors, backup drives, and accessories.
50% - Works independently on a wide range of web design and production, digital communications, and interactive projects. Responsible for digital media production which includes: working cooperatively with key team members; developing site structure for web sites; designing and developing content for web sites; designing electronic communications such as e-newsletters and social media content; creating interactive campaigns; writing or editing copy; making web site enhancements including video clips, web graphics, banners, mini-sites, landing pages, email blasts and social media assets; enforcing university style, identity, and voice guidelines; and sourcing videos, photos, graphics, and multimedia. Responsible for digital publications across their entire content life cycle, including coding, maintenance, and archiving. Assures design, editorial, and technical excellence for web and digital communications projects targeting the universitys internal and external audiences.
15% - Plans, implements, and maintains well-structured and well-coordinated university web presence and strategic electronic communications for the Division of University Advancement; works with university communications to set direction and develop meaningful and measurable goals for web and digital content channels. Ensures that digital media, interactive projects, and web content are relevant and useful to users, are clear, consistent, and concise, and align with the universitys branding and strategic goals to maximize impact.
15% - Maintains strong technical skills in web technologies and programming languages and stays abreast of best practices and new technology, online communications strategies, applications and tools, and web and digital accessibility practices, to support university communications over web/digital channels. Assists or trains others in web and digital media development through workshops and/or one-on-one sessions.
10% - Conducts audience research, web analytics, and content analysis to ensure that digital media/web content is relevant and useful to the universitys audiences, and aligns with the universitys strategic goals. Recommends policies and procedures regarding web and digital media; provides expertise in developing new media design and standards that conform to the campus brand identity; and develops and implements Online communication strategies to foster usability and accessibility.
5% - Works with the university communications team on web and digital crisis communications in the event of emergency situations as required.
5% - Performs other duties as assigned.
