Smith College is accepting applications for a Research Associate to run diagnostic tests for the detection of STH and other neglected tropical diseases. These diagnostics will include DNA/PCR-based methods as well as antigen and antibody-based immunological tests.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare reagents and run diagnostic tests for STH and other neglected tropical diseases. These diagnostics will include DNA/PCR-based methods as well as antigen and antibody-based tests such as ELISA. Specific duties and responsibilities include: DNA and RNA extraction and purification, protein purification, molecular cloning, antibody production, real-time quantitative PCR, RT-PCR, data management, recording and analysis of data, ordering supplies, organizing and storage of samples, responsibility for research assessment and protocols and data management and analysis. Some laboratory and personnel management will be required including supervising undergraduate and graduate students in research.
Education/Experience: M.A. or M.S. degree in biology, biochemistry or chemistry including at least two lecture courses and two laboratory courses in molecular biology. A minimum of two years’ experience in the molecular biology of filarial nematode parasites.
Skills: Experience in performing PCR, real-time PCR, quantitative real-time PCR. Good organizational skills are required.
