About the Position

 

Under the limited supervision of the Peer Connections Director, the Tutor Coordinator is responsible for the design, implementation, coordination and delivery of tutorial assistance to SJSU students. This person provides supervision and specialized professional development opportunities to Peer Connections tutors. This position maintains a supportive environment for paraprofessional staff through teambuilding, appreciation, and recognition endeavors. The position also monitors tutor payroll, professional development log, administrative tasks, etc. and coordinates tutor assignments as well as overseeing the day-to-day operations of the tutorial program. This position collaborates with other departments and colleges to provide effective academic assistance and represents Peer Connections as requested on committees and related activities that focus on tutoring issues. In order to assess effectiveness and keep current on tutoring needs, this position develops and implements assessment tools for measuring the educational impact of tutoring services and activities on students and prepares statistical and narrative reports assessing the effectiveness of the tutoring services.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Recruits, selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates all Peer Connections tutors. Provides individual student staff direction and development by conducting one-to-one meetings. Maintains a supportive environment for paraprofessional staff through teambuilding, appreciation, and recognition endeavors. Coordinates tutor assignments and oversees day-to-day operations of the tutorial program. Develops and implements assessment tools for measuring the educational impact of tutoring services and activities on students. Prepares statistical and narrative reports assessing the effectiveness of the tutoring services and their impact on students Monitors student assistant payroll, professional development log, assignments, etc. Coordinates national tutor training certification for Peer Connections. Designs and implements training specific to the tutor role including theoretical and practical applications. Collaborates with other departments and colleges to provide effective academic assistance and represents Peer Connections as requested on committees and related activities that focus on tutoring issues.
