Director of Public Service Career Planning

The Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University invites applications for the position of Director of Public Service Career Planning. The Director is expected to advise all students on matters relating to internships, fellowships and careers in public service, including judicial clerkships. This position, which is part of the Law School’s Office of Career Services, reports to the Associate Dean of Career Services.

Director of Public Service Career Planning

The primary responsibility for this role will be to develop opportunities and educate students about employment in the public service. The Director will be expected to actively participate in the public service legal community. More specific responsibilities include reviewing resumes and cover letters of students applying for public service positions, including judicial clerkships; identifying information about public service employment opportunities for students and alumni; interview preparation; educating students on summer funding and post-graduate fellowships; preparation of resource materials and programs; working closely with related student organizations; and developing and maintaining close working relationships with public service employers and government entities.  This position is a part-time (21 hours/week) position. 

The position requires attendance at events on Long Island and in New York City. Evening hours are a part of this position.

Qualifications:  Excellent organizational, written and oral communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work independently and as a member of a larger student services team are required. A law degree is required. Prior legal career coaching experience, with particular emphasis on public service career counseling, is strongly preferred. Advanced computing skills, including use of social media, is strongly preferred. Presentation skills necessary.
