I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Division of External Relations at the George Washington University is seeking a Graphic Designer to develop the visual strategy for GW marketing and communication events, collateral, videos, and other materials.

Reporting to the Managing Art Director, the Graphic Designer will create original creative visual communication and marketing deliverables for the promotion of GW activities in all areas of the university including but not limited to External Relations, Office of the Provost, Student Affairs, Office of the Executive Vice President and Treasurer, Office of The Senior Vice President and General Counsel, Research, Development and Alumni Relations.

Responsibilities include:
Executes less complex design projects utilizing full scope of technical skills and creative methods. Using InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, to produce high-priority print pieces including posters, brochures, flyers, environmental graphics, merchandise, advertising materials, logos, invitations, multi-media graphics, etc. Works closely with our project management team to develop comprehensive print, web and multi-media collateral to be used to meet the University's objectives and ensure adherence to University brand messaging.

Assist with the direction and coordination of photo shoots to fully achieve overall visual concept strategies for marketing and communication projects. Participates in the creation and development of university branding standards and makes recommendations. Maintains appropriate planning and production consultations with the managing and assistant art directors as well as the creative director.

Builds client relationships to address needs, budgetary and time constraints through constant communication. Assist with the negotiation of contracted services for university projects. Formulates vendor recommendations based on project specifications such as budget, scheduling, printing, and delivery.

Participates in press checks and other quality control measures including preflighting computer files before they are sent to vendors. Stay abreast of creative trends and technical developments.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Diverse portfolio highlighting a variety of design styles and demonstrating a solid grasp of typography, space, and color.

Strong layout and production skills desired.

Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator).

Strong attention to detail.

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Ability to work both independently and collaborate in a team environment.

Portfolio of design work that proves competency in conceptualization and production of print collateral.

Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects at a time.
