Duties: The Penn Vascular Cell Study Center is seeking an entry level of highly motivated research specialist in cardio-pulmonary cell biology. Our center is a part of a NIH funded nation-wide PHBI (Pulmonary Hypertension Breakthrough Initiative) network receiving extracted human lung tissues from control and pulmonary arterial hypertension subjects for isolation, culture, characterization/QC, banking and distribution of the cellular constituents for research.
Main duties of this position are under the senior investigator's supervision: Reception of lung tissue sent from nation wide collaborative PHBI transplant centers and coordination of the cell isolation schedule with other lab members; Taking main responsibility in cell isolation preparation, cell culture and banking; Leading the cell isolation procedure when receiving the lung tissue; Organization of inventory list; Perform characterization and analysis of isolated cells using FACS analysis and immunostaining techniques and updating data for Center inventory list; Distributing (culture, packing and shipping) cells to researches upon request; Maintain Center logs; Routine communication duties with PHBI network (primarily coordination of tissue/cell movements and data transfer). In addition, under senior investigator's supervision, perform cellular and molecular research focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms of pulmonary hypertension using molecular and cellular biology approaches such as RNA extraction, qRT-PCR, western immunoblotting and immunostaining while performing routine lab maintenance including autoclaving tools, supplying common use reagents.

Position is contingent on continued funding.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree in biological subject and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Bench experiences in research laboratory in cell biology with cell culture procedures preferred. In addition, a person with knowledge of Microsoft Office: Work, Excel with good data organization skills is desirable.
