Duties: This position reports to the Sr. Associate Director in the Graduate Division and to the Vice Dean for Finance and Administration.
The Business Manager is the senior business administrator for the MBA and WEMBA programs, providing overall operational financial leadership with responsibility for financial management of all unrestricted and restricted funds, including special purpose accounts such as 2401 Walnut, Semester in San Francisco, GIP, WGA and various gift and endowment accounts.
The Business Manager directly supervises the Business Administrator and one Financial Administrative Coordinator and has a dotted-line reporting relationship to an additional five financial coordinators in the division and provides necessary training, support and oversite to assure that best practices are followed and that the processing is accurate.
The Business Manager works closely with the Vice Dean of the MBA Program, directors, managers, financial coordinators, and the Business Administrator to prepare the division's budgets. The Business Manager prepares and summarizes budget, tracks changes and updates forecasts using Hyperion, Business Objects/Webi, Ben Financials, Excel and other financial tools.
The Business Manager works with various directors and managers in the Graduate Division and F&A to assure all financial operations and decisions adhere to university policy and provides financial models, spending and trend analysis, budget variance reporting, and prioritizing recommendations for the division's planning decisions and recommendations for cost efficiencies.
The division looks to the Business Manager to provide financial analysis and input into the strategic decisions of the division. The Business Manager oversees processes such as payroll, travel expense, and purchasing cards and provides auditable, streamlined processing.
The Business Manager prepares and submits to the school's Office of Finance and Administration the annual operating budget, additional funds requests, projections, annual tax and year-end closing reports.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree and 5 years to 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Detail- oriented and strong interpersonal communication skills. Knowledge of Penn financial systems a plus. Past experience in budgeting, accounting, or auditing required. Past experience improving processes and strong ability to multi-task. Also experience supporting and working with several offices, staff and managers. Past supervisory experience a plus.
