RESEARCH ENGINEER II
Job Summary The Research Engineer II functions as the Flow Cytometry Manager for the Center for Vaccines and Immunology (CVI). The Flow Cytometry Manager will assume the lead technical role for the Cellular Immunology Core for the CVI and will be responsible for maintaining the equipment in the core, sorting cell populations, and working with clients to generate and acquire multi-parametric panels. The Flow Cytometry Manager will be in charge of the FACS Fusion sorter and additional analyzers. The Flow Cytometry Manager will aid in the development and validation of protocols for multiple vaccine projects at the CVI. The incumbent will report directly to the CVI Director, CVI Research Director and meet weekly to review progress and schedule projects in the Cellular Immunology Core. The manager will be asked to write monthly reports on research progress, present data and project strategies at Quarterly In-House meetings. Review data and work with clients to generate phenotypic data, generate graphical figures of data and write scientific reports for review. In addition, the Flow Cytometry Manager will assist the Research Director, CVI PIs, and CVI Director in writing new proposals to expand these projects by writing technical sections, reviewing figures, generating graphs of data, and editing the proposals for grant submissions. Under the supervision of Research Director, the Flow Cytometry Manager will be responsible for record keeping and proper storage of data, overall delivery of materials, communication with directors for maintaining an effective Cellular Core and maintenance of flow cytometers. In addition, this position will be responsible for maintaining a clean and sterile lab environment, designing and implementing experiments, data analysis and keeping detailed records of all procedures. Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential. Related laboratory experience is required. Candidate will have significant input in hiring and evaluating less-experienced research assistants in the future. Research Director and CVI Director will retain lead responsibility. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master of science degree in agricultural engineering and some experience in planning and conducting research; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
