The University is seeking candidates with the proper qualifications to fill the position of HVAC Mechanic II on the first shift, Monday through Friday. The University may consider other shifts based on operational needs.


Install heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment including related fixtures; check heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, including hot water, steam systems, DDC in a variety of buildings (Academic, Resident Halls, Lab) and perform related work as required. The basic purpose of this work is to install, maintain and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.

Maintains rebuilds and makes repairs on all related HVAC equipment (PM). Replacing worn or defective parts such as bearings, pulleys, fans and by lubricating motors and bearings, replacing belts, changing filters, switches, fuses, thermostats and electrical wiring. Order supplies and equipment as needed to complete work and assist others in the completion of their work.
Installs heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment including controls and related fixtures such as air and water filters and piping by using refrigeration, pipe fitting and structural layout techniques, blueprints, appropriate machines, tools and work aids to join tubing and/or pipes; to cut and thread pipes; to solder or braze joints; to mount compressor and condenser units; and to connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls and circulation ventilation fans to electrical power sources. Checks equipment for malfunctions by various means. Adds necessary refrigerants keeping accurate records following the current rules and regulations issued by the EPA.
Installs, repairs or alters internal and external piping systems such as chilled/hot water systems, low-thru-high-pressure heating systems, etc. and maintains or replaces related equipment such as trap valves, heat exchangers and steam piping and fluid transmission lines as required and in accordance with standard procedures
Exercise direct supervisory responsibilities as determined by the University such as planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished, the capabilities of subordinates and available resources; controlling work through periodic reviews; determining subordinates' training needs and recommending such training; motivating subordinates to work effectively; determining the need for disciplinary action.
Analyzes and treats both open and closed water systems such as heating and cooling loops, steam boilers and cooling towers by adding algaecides, biocides and inhibitors.
Performs related work such as making and assembling metal ducts and chassis parts for heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems; drilling holes for mounting bracket; screwing, boring riveting and welding parts to assemble structural and functional components such as motors, controls, switches, and gauges; and installing shells and cabinets of systems
Performs rigging of motors, fans and pumps for weights
