Training and Development Specialist
General Description of Position:
Kansas State University Olathe Campus invites applications for the position of Training and Development Specialist. The K-State Olathe campus (www.olathe.k-state.edu) located in the Greater Kansas City (KC) metro area was launched in April 2011. The goal of this campus is to teach students but also to be a place where professionals come to continue their learning. It is home to graduate level students as they prepare for careers or new opportunities. The business world also benefits from the presence of the campus, as it helps educate the future workforce and holds ongoing professional development seminars and workshops. The campus currently offers executive education and graduate programs in adult and continuing education, food science, horticulture, veterinary biomedical science, school counseling, industrial engineering and also a professional science master's degree. In addition, the campus houses collaborations between researchers and companies, both public and private, so that the technology being developed is what the businesses in the industry are demanding. The state-of-the-art facility is home to ten laboratories in research areas ranging from food sciences to disease diagnostics and consumer research.
The Training and Development Specialist supports K-State Olathe's academic affairs' aim to be a model conduit for interdisciplinary and innovative education, research and engagement.
The Training and Development Specialist reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Executive Education. Essential duties include, but are not limited to: (1) develop, manage, coordinate, and implement self-supporting programs, events and activities; and (2) design and develop learning and practicing experiences in an effective and appealing manner. Duties may require supervision of support staff, student workers, or temporary hires, travel, as well as, evening and weekend hours.
Develop, manage, coordinate, and implement self-supporting programs, events and activities
Develop strategies to create and expand current and future non-credit programs.
Assess target market training and development needs through surveys, interviews with employees and employers, or consultations with managers, instructors and subject matter experts.
Monitor and evaluate training programs to ensure they are current and effective.
Identify instructors or vendors to conduct training.
Promote non-credit programs and offering in collaboration with other units including, for-credit programming and Communications and Marketing
Work closely with the Facilities Manager, Event Coordinator and Assistant Project Coordinator for the Associate Dean, in the delivery of programs and events.
Perform administrative tasks such as develop budgets, monitor costs, schedule classes, set up systems and equipment, and coordinate enrollment
Design and develop learning and practicing experiences in an effective and appealing manner
Design and create engaging training manuals and learning materials, online learning modules, and course materials to support a variety of instructional techniques and programs and in collaboration with subject matter experts.
Design face-to-face classroom courses and translate face-to face classroom courses into online and distance courses
Review training materials from a variety of vendors and choose appropriate materials
Assist with special projects as requested by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Executive Education.
Education and Experience Requirements
Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Training and Instruction, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Organizational Psychology or a related area and a minimum of 3 years (or BS/BA and a minimum of 6 years) of progressive experience in a related area working with business or industry.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Must be able to design and produce engaging learning materials in a variety of formats including print, graphics, audio, video, animation and multimedia, and have knowledge of instructional software to support teaching and learning related to educational programs, events and activities.
Knowledge of current issues and trends in business and industry regarding training and educational needs and must be flexible to adjust as needs change.
Must have strong interpersonal, written, and visual communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and constituencies.
Must have strong project management and leadership skills that promote creativity, innovation and growth.
Must be able to work effectively on a team as well as independently and respond to changing conditions.
Physical Activities and Environmental Conditions :
Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. with the ability to travel and work some evenings and limited weekends, as necessary.

Salary and Benefits:
$52,517 - $ 84,027, commensurate with candidate's ability and experience.
