General Description of Position:

This is a Fellow Post-Doctoral position in the Plant Biosecurity Lab in the department of Plant Pathology.  The position is 100% research with primary responsibilities to support on-going projects for the development and validation of molecular detection/diagnostic assays for plant pathogenic bacteria and fungi.  Although primarily a laboratory-based position, limited field work will be required.  Presentation of scientific results at scientific meetings and publication of results in peer-reviewed journals is required.  It is expected that the person in this position will assist in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students and contribute to general laboratory maintenance.

Job Description:

The Stack lab is seeking a highly motivated scientist to contribute to the development of genomics-based diagnostic assays for the detection of plant pathogens to the sub-specific (e.g. pathovar, race) and population levels of discrimination.  We are currently focused on Pseudomonas syringae, Rathayibacter toxicum and Fusarium proliferatum.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in plant pathology, microbiology, molecular biology or biochemistry

Working experience with DNA-based technologies (PCR, real-time PCR, sequence analysis)

Working knowledge in mycology and microbiology (culture & preservation, strain characterization)

Strong written and oral communication skills

Effective interpersonal skills important to collaboration; ability to work well with others

Strong respect for laboratory safety

Preferred Qualifications:

Theorectical and practical experience with development and validation of diagnostic protocols

Experience with bioinformatics analyses and software programs

Experience with population biology and/or population genetics

Experience with Pseudomonas syringae and/or Rathayibactor toxicus biology and genetics
