Schedule Information:  Per course schedule; maintains a minimum of 15 contact hours of teaching and 10 office hours per week for student consultation; evening and weekend instruction may be required.  Serves on college committees; participates in departmental and division initiatives.

Weeks per fiscal year:  Faculty are covered under a 9-month contract period (August thru May) - this position may require an additional commitment for the Capstone experience from May thru June. Additional compensation will be awarded for this time period.

Position Description and Duties:  

Harper College's Department of Nursing is seeking applications for a Nursing Faculty position in the Practical Nursing Program. The position's primary focus is on teaching Fundamentals, and other areas of nursing including Medical Surgical, Pediatrics, OB, Gerontology and Mental Health nursing. This position involves didactic and clinical instruction of nursing students.  The successful candidate will also assist with the ACEN accreditation process.  Instructional responsibilities include:  course development, updating and submission of course syllabi in required format, assessment of student outcomes, research and development of resources for instruction, and utilization and development of instructional design methods that include technology (simulation).  Timely evaluation of students including reporting of student grades and progress is required.

The successful candidate will participate in and contribute to program, divisional and institutional committees, assignments and activities.  Committee work will include assignment to a faculty nursing committee.  Ten office hours per week for student consultation and advisement. Participation in professional development, both internal and external, to remain credentialed in nursing and to advance in the instructional role are required.

Educational Requirements: Master's Degree with a major in Nursing is required. Candidates must have a current unencumbered Registered Nurse license (Illinois) or eligibility for Illinois license.

Experience Requirements:  Two years of teaching experience preferred. Current Nursing experience required. Additional experience in Long-Term Care, Community and Medical Office is preferred. Knowledge of LPN practice is preferred.
