I. Summary of Position
The IT Technical Manager conducts day-to-day first line management of technical issues with the Bing Overseas Studies Program (BOSP). The IT Technical Manager is responsible for specifying the requirements, designing, and implementing all IT resources within the Bing Overseas Studies Program including the website, application system, course database, hardware support, and all of the various system tools needed to support BOSP programs. The IT Technical Manager provides technical oversight and guidance and expertise to staff members at nine overseas centers around the world.

The Bing Overseas Studies Program (BOSP) offers Stanford undergraduates the opportunity to study abroad while remaining enrolled at Stanford and is considered an integral part of the Stanford curriculum. The demographic breakdown of BOSP participants closely mirrors that of the entire Stanford population. Approximately 50 percent of each graduating class studies abroad on a BOSP program during their undergraduate career at Stanford.

III. Core Duties
  • Lead and manage the daily IT operations of the Bing Overseas Studies Program (BOSP), which includes training, developing, evaluating and setting priorities in all IT areas. Coordinate IT business, technical and educational activities for nine overseas centers.
  • Identify, clarify, and resolve technical issues within BOSP; serve as the initial managerial escalation point for problems from clients and other staff. Install and maintain computing security hardware and software.
  • Communicate operational objectives and assignments and delegate as needed to users and local staff. Monitor and report on IT performance metrics.
  • Manage the network infrastructure and internet connectivity at each center.
  • Contribute to the development of plans to resolve business issues. Provide strategic planning for IT issues within BOSP; may assist higher level management in broader scope strategic planning.
  • Communicate and implement policies, procedures, best practices, recommendations and guidelines in compliance with established university policy and federal / international regulations. Mentor and train overseas staff on best practices, technical solutions and desktop support skills.
  • May develop and/or manage budgets for IT projects within BOSP.
  • May establish service level agreements with clients.
  • Monitor technology trends and evaluate emerging technologies to recommend for adoption and implementation.
  • Manage the BOSP website and all overseas center websites.
IV. QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant work experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Understanding of relevant technical knowledge and problem resolution throughout IT including application support, website programming, and hardware support.
  • Strong customer relationship and consensus building skills.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships especially across international and cultural boundaries.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor others.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain current U.S. passport and obtain international visas as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Ability to work extended hours and / or at different times to support colleagues around the world.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally requiring ability to lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds
  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently sitting, grasp light/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally stand/walk/kneel/crawl.
