The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics (EPBI: at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine invites candidates to apply for a non-tenure track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to further enhance our Data Analytic Core services. The successful applicant will direct a broad range of quantitative cores for the School of Medicine. S/he will provide structure and leadership for a team with complementary but distinct quantitative skills. This person will have a highly visible role in organizing, synthesizing, analyzing and managing complex datasets from research teams addressing research ranging from clinical to molecular. S/he will establish a vision and roadmap using modern consulting service strategies, effectively capitalizing on technological, financial and human resource assets, to build the competencies for the future of Data Analytics as a Core Service. 

The successful applicant will have a strong record in computational and statistical methods applied to biological and/or clinical data for advancing biomedical and healthcare research. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in managing teams of quantitative scientists with a range of skills; experience with clinical trials is a plus but not essential. Collaborative research and team science are critical components of this position. The applicant is expected to undertake a lead role on project teams, provide support and guidance on data and statistical-related issues to the teams, attend project team meetings as necessary, and be responsible for the quality, accuracy and timely completion of the assigned tasks.  CWRU provides an excellent benefits package.

The successful candidate will have a PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent in biomedical informatics, computer science, information sciences, biostatistics, or a related field and must:

  • enjoy working in a collaborative academic health care setting
  • collaborate within and across disciplines and sectors
  • have 5+ years of experience with data analytics using R in a UNIX environment in a biomedical field
  • have 3+ years of management experience, directing scientists and research assistants with and without quantitative skills
  • have ability to communicate quantitative results to less quantitatively savvy users
  • have ability to organize and manage multiple projects and provide leadership in a fast-paced environment
  • be intellectually curious, analytically rigorous, and hard-working
  • Have a proven track record of innovative and independent problem-solving skills
  • Have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to work with and influence strong personalities

Cleveland is internationally known as a center of excellence in health care, medicine, and medical education, which is exemplified by multiple cross-institutional initiatives including the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center (, the Institute for Computational Biology (, and our CTSA ( The EPBI department consists of 34 primary faculty members and more than 100 affiliated faculty members across Cleveland (from the Cleveland Clinic, the University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, and the MetroHealth System). The EPBI faculty have access to over 40 institutional core facilities including the Data Analytics core and the High Performance Computing Center.
