Position Summary: The Remote Handling Mechanical Engineer II will be responsible for the design, fabrication and commissioning of equipment that is used to maintain activated components at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB).
Faculty: Minimum Qualifications Support Staff: Minimum Requirements The job requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering or Physics; three to five years of progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in fabrication techniques, cryogenic systems, electronics, mechanical and electronic drafting and computer systems; requires experience in the use of CAD and/or related engineering systems, including file transfer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Typing Requirements (wpm):
Desired Qualifications: Experience with SolidWorks and ANSYS; experience in the design and fabrication of equipment that is used in a radiation environment; experience in the design of below the hook lifting devices to the requirements of ASME BTH-1; experience designing to the requirements of AWS D1.1 and AWS D14.1; demonstrated ability to develop and document design requirements; demonstrated ability to verify the design of equipment by completing and documenting engineering calculations; demonstrated ability to design equipment that meets a set of requirements and have the equipment fabricated and qualified for operation; experience specifying quality requirements for fabricated hardware; experience developing lift plans for overhead cranes; experience in the use of exotic metals, including knowledge of their properties, in the fabrication and assembly of sophisticated research equipment.
