Faculty Position

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree. Minimum of four years full- or part-time experience practicing journalism on the web, either in a professional setting or teaching, or a combination of both, that demonstrates the skills necessary to teach coursed related to online journalism. Demonstrated knowledge of relevant software applications and/or programming languages. Experience interacting with diverse communities. Demonstrated interpersonal skills compatible with team teaching and collaboration. Candidates must meet these requirement, as evidenced in the addendum described in "Application Procedures," below, to move forward in the search.



Preferred Qualifications: Please note: Candidates' CV will be ranked based on these qualification; we do not expect an individual candidate to possess them all. Experience designing or implementing multimedia and/or interactive journalism packages. Experience designing or implementing mobile journalism application for newsrooms. Experience with user experience/user interface for news (News UX/UI). Experience using one or more programming languages, specifically HTML5, Python, JavaScript. Proficiency in data journalism. Additional classroom experience teaching journalism courses. Current professional journalistic work. Awards for journalistic and/or digital endeavors. Advanced degree.



Responsibilities & Requirements: The position focuses on teaching. The successful candidate will be asked to teach three classes in digital journalism per semester. One will likely be an introductory class in digital journalism. More advanced courses would focus on specific skill sets that the instructor possesses.

School of Journalism: The School of Journalism, establish in 2006, the only school of journalism in the New York State higher education system (SUNY). In addition, to its core undergraduate program of about 300 majors and minors, the School of Journalism house the Center for News Literacy, which has taught more than 10,000 students how to be more discerning news consumers, and the Marie Colvin Center for International Reporting. It is the academic home of the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science. The School of Journalism trains all its students in multimedia journalism. The school is accredited by the Accrediting Council of Education in Journalism.



Special Notes: This is a non-tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Anticipated Start Date: Fall 2017.
