Division of Undergraduate Studies Advising First- CARE. The mission of the Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement (CARE) is to contribute to the successful retention and graduation of undergraduate students who have been disadvantaged by virtue of economic or educational circumstances.
Responsible for advising undergraduate students in the development of academic schedules appropriate for stated education goals. Takes a pro-active approach to academic advising, seeking out contact with students and staff and providing advising services on request. Works with academic departments and other units within Undergraduate Studies to develop advising programs. Recommends changes and additions in existing policies and procedures to effect a successful advising program; performs special projects as assigned by Undergraduate Studies.
A Master's degree in an appropriate area; or a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years relevant experience; or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years. Prior student advising, counseling, customer service experience, or experience working one-on-one with people in a professional setting. Computer skills to include experience with Microsoft Office and web-based applications. Ability to interpret and explain policies to students, parents, faculty, and staff. Ability to extract complex academic information from various sources and maintain confidentiality. Must have the unique ability to deal with people in a calm, confident manner and with complete objectivity. Attention to detail and the highest standard of integrity are imperative. Will have access to student data which are covered under the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act. Position requires a high level of discretion and knowledge of legal issues in relation to confidentiality of data.
Experience in an academic setting; knowledge of BOT and University rules and regulations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, supervisors, and interdepartmental personnel. Ability to work independently; creative problem-solving skills; excellent written and oral communication skills.
Anticipated Salary Range
Low to mid $30's, commensurate with education and experience.

This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.
