Mechanical Projects Manager
Summary of the Position
The Mechanical Project Manager will be instrumental in assisting the Planning and Construction Department with evaluating the current condition of the HVAC systems and assist with establishing a long term master plan for upgrades and replacements.The manager needs to be well versed in the operation of university systems to include but not limited to: chillers, cooling towers, boilers, dx units, VAVs, VFDs, FCUs, and miscellaneous conditioning systems. The manager will also support the operation as it relates to mechanical ice making equipment in the ice arena. The manager will review all HVAC technical specifications for system upgrades and new projects to ensure conformance with the university standards. Part of the review includes identifying energy efficiency opportunities and rebates as part of the university's sustainability commitment. The manager needs to be well versed in BMS to ensure the HVAC systems are functioning per the university's standards and to ensure deficiencies are identified early and rectified. The manager will assist the Operation's Department as a technical point person to assist in the day to day functioning of the HVAC systems. The manager will be responsible for the execution of HVAC projects from inception through completion.
Generate utility baselines, benchmarks, consumption trends and load profiling.
Collect data through EMS, utility meters, and maintenance records to determine where improvements may be made to improve operating efficiency. Quantify expected return on investments for mechanical and controls improvements.
Analyzing existing building systems and collecting data on building operation utilization relative to HVAC systems.
Coordinate training programs for personnel to provide the special skills and techniques required to maintain equipment.
Review all major project plans and specifications prior to bidding to ensure completeness and to minimize future long term operational problems.
Inspect all new construction and major renovation work performed by outside contractors to ensure compliance with approved plans and specifications.
Develop proposals which include engineering specs, preliminary cost estimates completion schedule and possible sources of funding for improvements to existing systems relative to HVAC systems.
Work with Asset Manager for the implementation of the PM's for all new equipment Analyze existing building systems for the purpose of improving operating efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience Requirements)
Bachelor's Degree with at least 7 years of experience in the mechanical engineering and facilities field. Candidate must also have experience with implementing and managing energy management systems and building controls. Strong analytical capabilities and the ability to program complex building energy management systems are essential to this position. Must hold and maintain a valid, unrestricted United States driver's license, with an insurable driving history as determined by Bentley's insurance carrier.
B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical) or B.S. in Facilities Plant and Engineering preferred. At least 10 years of experience is highly desirable. Experience with ice rinks and their associated systems preferred.
Must be physically capable of inspecting and supervising all aspects of a mechanical project (ladders, heights, light lifting, etc). May be called upon to work extended hours in the workday in order to properly supervise and meet a project deadline.
