Primary Function of Organization Unit: Research Management provides financial and administrative assistance to faculty and staff from the point of initial award of a sponsored project through the life of the project. It also provides financial and administrative guidance to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, university and sponsor regulations specific to each project awarded to the College.
Essential Job Duties: The Accounting Technician will provide financial support for the Research Management Office in the College of Education. Duties for this position include but are not limited to: -Working with financial accounts of moderate variety and complexity. Providing account guidance to others and determines allocability and allowability of charges. -Monitors and verifies project budgets. -Interpreting policies, rules and regulations related to research and sponsored funding compliance. -Responsible for employee time sheets. This includes working with Human Resources to clear exceptions in time management system, printing of time sheets and obtaining signature of employee and supervisor. Individual will monitor labor ensuring funding is not over-expended. -Reviewing travel authorization compliance and reimbursements for all employees. Inputting all travel for non-employees traveling on grant funded projects, including blanket travel authorizations/mileage. -Coordinating vendor set up in financial management system. -Responsible for Purchase Card reconciling reviewing receipts, uploading any additional documentation ensuring compliance. -Placing orders for grant funded expenditures to include books, grant-related supplies, and supplies for schools (NELA grant). -Maintains grant files to include set up and destroy list.
Department Required Skills: Strong organizational skills. Ability to independently review financial information and make routine decisions on cost allowability. Efficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word or similar software. Strong interpersonal, computer, and organizational skills. Strong writing and oral communication skills with a focus on providing excellent customer service. Ability to work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Bachelor's degree is preferred. University post award experience and/or experience in a University research environment preferred. Experience with financial and travel management systems, such as PeopleSoft or similar software Demonstrated proficiency using Excel in a financial management capacity.
