Position Summary: UNC's Institute for Healthcare Quality Improvement's (IHQI) mission is to catalyze healthcare improvement, spread and culture change by engaging providers in improvement projects, training and research. The mission is pursued through several programs: 1. The Seed Grant Program promotes the development of experience and expertise in quality improvement among School of Medicine faculty and UNC Health Care staff 2. The Physician Engagement in Quality and Safety course helps physicians gain a solid foundation in quality improvement by highlighting the safety and quality challenges facing healthcare, sharing case studies of improvement initiatives and defining physicians' role as leaders in improvement work. 3. The Faculty Development Program promotes professional development in quality improvement through mentoring, training and educational programming. IHQI projects are complex quality improvement interventions that involve designing and implementing systems and approaches to improve healthcare. While individual projects vary in content, focus, and type, the purpose of each is the same: to provide physicians and other healthcare professionals with education, systems and support to enable them to implement strategies that improve the quality of healthcare. Working closely with the faculty project leader, the project manager (PM) designs and develops interventions to improve clinical care and plans and facilitates implementation activities. The PM provides leadership during project planning, start-up, implementation, and close-out. The PM must interact comfortably with individuals with diverse skill sets and backgrounds and coordinate activity with multiple stakeholders, and has frequent contact with physicians and other healthcare professionals and leaders. Effective oral and written communication in a rapidly changing environment is critical to the PM's effectiveness. The PM continually draws on the ability to manage ambiguity, solve problems and prioritize.
