The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Associate to develop new approaches and protocols for printing skeletal muscle and other interfacing tissues (e.g. vessels, nerve) using state-of-the-art 3D-bioprinters and micro/nano-lithography instrumentation. He/She will develop and validate new 3D-printing strategies, collaborate on in vivo pre-clinical and clinical studies, manage collaborative projects, interact with clinicians, faculty, and students, give scientific presentations, write journal articles, proposals, and patent disclosures.
Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, cell biology, physiology, biotechnology, or a related field by appointment start date, ideally with a strong background in muscle and microvascular physiology. Familiarity in one or more of the following areas is also a plus: in vitro and in vivo angiogenesis assays, skeletal muscle experimentation using small animal models, confocal imaging and histology, stem cell biology and cell culture, and biomaterials.
