Summary of Duties
Mentors/supervises a small group of students and attends program classes with them. Assists teachers in math, reading, and arts (drama, music, visual, and dance) classes. Attends class activities, field trips, parent nights, and meal times, ensuring the safety and appropriate behavior of elementary age students; assists in set up and cleanup of program site daily; administers student assessments and maintains accurate records of student performance as requested by the classroom teacher.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED plus six months to one year of related experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference given to college students majoring in elementary education.

Experience in mentoring/tutoring elementary students.

Spanish speakers preferred.

Knowledge
Knowledge of basic reading and math.

Experience working with children and youth.

Knowledge of computer basics including Microsoft suite.

Skills
Skills in effective verbal and written communication.

Skills in working independently with dependability.

Skills in maintaining accurate records.

Abilities
Ability to work with young children.

Ability to relate to a diverse group of students.

Ability to follow-through with assignments, schedules and reporting hours.

Ability to assess student work according to general instructions

Ability to demonstrate professionalism as a representative of UVU.

Working Conditions
Program takes place at South Franklin Community Center in Provo. 770 S. 700 W. Provo, Utah.

Schedule
Training May 29th through June 2nd, 4 hours per day, from 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM (dinner is provided). Program is from June 5th to July 27th, eight week summer program plus one week of training, 22 hours per week, 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, and as assigned for special activities and occasional evening events.
