Position:

This is an exciting position for Harrisburg University designed to provide leadership to the universities’ accelerator and entrepreneurship programs.  These programs are focused on business creation as well as the recruitment and professional development of entrepreneurs.  This position will partner with faculty in the Academic Programs at Harrisburg University, as well as business leaders in the Central Pennsylvania region, to mentor and grow new technology or interactive media businesses. 

The primary responsibilities of this position are the development and direction of the University’s new business accelerator as well as the design, management and delivery of educational programs for entrepreneurs.  The Director of Accelerator and Entrepreneurship Programs will be highly visible and active in the community with the broader mission of fostering an entrepreneurial culture in the City of Harrisburg. 

The successful candidate will have experience in the private sector, preferably in a technology related industry as well as a strong passion for entrepreneurship and experience with start-up ventures.  The successful candidate must have the creativity and flexibility to build, operate and evolve programs in a dynamic environment.  The ideal candidate will possess a good balance of being dynamic and polished, with the ability to communicate with and gain the confidence of all professionals.  Experience with building and managing business accelerators is desired.  Some experience with teaching marketing and/or economics is also desired.

Additional skills include the following:

  • An in-depth understanding of start-ups and emerging technologies
  • Some understanding of emerging analytics applications and opportunities
  • A technology competency that facilitates innovation leadership
  • Self-motivation and the ability to be proactive in solving business needs with technology solutions
  • Leadership skill and executive presence that allows effective interaction with internal and external business and IT executives on all matters relating to emerging technology and innovation
  • An ability to objectively assess and push-back with clear, value-based rationale
  • Proficiency building and managing virtual teams
  • Strong organizational management, motivation and development skills
  • Ph.D desired, MBA or equivalent Master’s Degree required.
