About The Unit:

Unit Job Summary: Research Assistant: The Psychology and Development lab directed by Dr. Alex Shaw at the University of Chicago is seeking a full-time research assistant to begin July 1, 2017. The research assistant will participate in research related to the development of social cognition. The particular focus of this position will entail coordinating projects investigating social influences on children's allocation decisions and their moral judgments about others. Responsibilities include overseeing research activities, including but not limited to: participant recruitment both in the lab and at schools, undergraduate research assistant supervision, stimuli create, testing child participants, and coding and analyzing data.

Unit Education: A Bachelor's degree is required. A Bachelor's degree in Psychology or a related field, as well as previous research experience in a developmental psychology laboratory, is highly preferred.

Unit Experience: Two years of previous research experience is preferred; experience in a developmental psychology laboratory is particularly desirable. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel required; knowledge of statistical software preferred. Experience with computer programming and video editing software desired. Excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as comfort and experience working with children is required. Candidate must be highly motivated, independent and motivated. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, have excellent communication skills, be able to work independently, and be motivated, creative and organized. Excellent computer skills are essential; knowledge of computer programming and/or video editing is preferred. The candidate must be willing to commit two years to the position. This position is particularly appropriate for individuals who are interested in pursuing graduate studies in psychology.
