The Academic Computing and Communications Center is looking to fill a Business Intelligence Analyst position. The Business Intelligence Analyst identifies, extracts, analyzes, and presents data regarding the organization's performance, utilization, historical and current conditions; creates reports and communicates findings and trends to management for decision making regarding services, costs, and efficiencies. Gathers data through a number of ways and many data streams, from mining internal computer data, competitor data and industry trends to develop a picture of the business position, improvement and cost reduction opportunities.

  • Define reporting needs and metrics for data analysis for the organization. Create and produce recurring and ad hoc requests to produce information and provide analysis to solve business problems.
  • Gather information requirements and retrieve/mine data sources using computer programs.
  • Analyze current and historical information, recognize trends and create benchmarks against peer institutions for comparative analyses. Produce recurring metrics and reports as well as create new reports as requested.
  • Communicate and report status to executives, business partners and other stakeholders: provide summary and detailed information to make planning decisions and solutions for creating revenue and reducing cost.
  • Actively monitor recurring and nonrecurring reports for accuracy and reasonableness. Identify, establish and maintain quality data sources. Work with IT to ensure quality data sources are established and maintained.
  • Design and establish information systems that manage, store, file, retrieve and analyze data for statistical and summary reports, longitudinal tracking and ad hoc reporting.
  • Maintain documentation for report development including report schedules, report publishing, report requirements, job aids. Maintain report inventory.
  • Document and maintain Business Intelligence processes and data/metric definitions.
  • Develop, maintain and validate reports, scorecards, and dashboard in BI tools such as Business Objects.
  • Identify gaps between source systems and established information systems used to store data.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

  • A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline such as statistics, mathematics, social science, economics, information science or related field is required.

  • A minimum of three years' experience in a data analysis position, including experience in building a data strategy.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of data mining, data warehouse tools and relational databases.
  • Expert skill level in BI tools, including Business Objects. Proficient in database query language such as SQL. Proficient in data interchange protocols such as XML, OLE, and legacy ODBC. Expert skill level in Excel, including pivot tables, PowerPivot, graphing and data presentation.

  • Ability to work on large projects with many data streams and competing deadlines. Detail-oriented business analysis skills, problem solving and project management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Presentation skills to simplify and translate technical information into meaningful business information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships.

This is a full-time, 12-month Academic Professional position.
