The Department of Media Arts, Sciences, and Studies in the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College is currently accepting applications for a full-time faculty member with a focus on sound design, production and post-production to begin August 16, 2017. We are seeking candidates that will bring to our program professional industry experience in audio production and a deep desire to teach the next generation of media professionals. This position will teach primarily in the Television-Radio degree program.
We are looking specifically for a mix of the following professional qualities in our new colleague:
• Expertise in sound design and sound acquisition (e.g., location recording and mixing)
• Experience and expertise in sound for images (film, animation, games, etc.)
• Experience in studio recording environments (analog and digital; music and sound stage)
• Post-production expertise in a ProTools workflow environment
• Experience and expertise with some combination of ADR, Foley, scoring for visual media and other specialized areas of audio/sound production and post production
The successful candidate will teach in her/his area of expertise plus current audio production courses and potentially other media production courses within the department curriculum where qualified to do so. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to help shape future curricular innovation in the Department's audio courses. This position offers the opportunity to be part of one of the strongest undergraduate communication programs in the country. The ideal candidate will be equipped to create an environment that encourages student learning, will have a demonstrated record of professional accomplishment, and will bring additional visibility to the department, both within the college and nationally. The candidate will serve as academic adviser to students and on department, school, and college committees. There is an expectation of peer-reviewed professional activity in the form of scholarly publication or juried creative work for tenure-eligible appointment in the Department of Media Arts, Sciences, and Studies.
The successful candidate will also demonstrate an ability to teach in ways that value the varied learning needs and interests of a culturally diverse student population, and that reflect a commitment to encouraging the success of all students. We also seek candidates who have relevant experience and/or a record of professional engagement with groups and communities underrepresented in the academy. Candidates from underrepresented groups whose exclusion from the academy has been longstanding are strongly encouraged to apply.
Significant relevant professional and/or industry experience and successful teaching experience at the college level is required. For appointment, it is desired the successful candidate will hold a terminal degree in a relevant discipline (Ph.D. or M.F.A.). Candidates holding other graduate degrees (M.S. or M.A.) may still be considered for appointment. A commitment to a liberal arts education within a professional program is expected.
