The Departments of Environmental and Occupational Health and Global Health of The George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health invite applications for a faculty position with expertise related to Global Environmental Health (GEH). The position will be tenure-track at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, commensurate with experience, in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health with a secondary appointment in Global Health.
The Milken Institute School of Public Health has a diverse and growing faculty and a rapidly growing research portfolio. As the only school of public health in the nation's capital, faculty and students have a unique opportunity to work closely with government agencies as well as the numerous non-governmental and international organizations that are headquartered in DC. The School of Public Health has laboratory facilities in a brand new state of the art Science and Engineering Hall located in the heart of the GWU Foggy Bottom campus.
GWU is looking to grow its expertise in GEH with a broad focus on the public health implications of environmental conditions. The position will focus on the broad spectrum of global environmental health with research interests that could include, for example, climate change and health, the impact on populations from rapid urbanization throughout the world, sound management of chemicals and their global stewardship, as well as environmental health risks particularly associated with low-resource settings such as lack of access to clean water, inadequate sanitation, poor hygiene, household air pollution, inadequate solid waste disposal, and vector-borne diseases.Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities for the position include an active role in global environmental health research, teaching, and service. The successful candidate will bring or develop an externally funded research portfolio and devote 50% effort to this research, and 50% to teaching, service and mentoring students. This appointment includes leadership of the Global Environmental Health MPH program - a joint educational effort between the Departments of Global Health and Environmental and Occupational Health - designed to educate individuals who are committed to working in diverse resource settings across countries and regions, and applying analytic skills to prevent or mitigate the adverse impact of environmental risks to human health.Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have a terminal degree in a relevant discipline, experience teaching and mentoring students, and significant expertise in at least one of the areas of focus for the GEH program. Relevant disciplines include environmental health, epidemiology, global health, microbiology, medicine, economics, public policy or other relevant social sciences. Strong communication skills in English are required. Applicants must have a publication record commensurate with rank and have demonstrated the ability to obtain extramural research funding.Advertised Salary: Salary will be commensurate with experience.
